I’m putting on a flak jacket for the inevitable comments of why don’t you get precheck from the peanut gallery, but I just wonder about BA and JAL first fliers who won’t likely have it - where do they go to pass security?
Now onto the next debacle - signs all over pointed to the far left of the concourse (checkpoint 9) for priority security which is where they said to go. Walked over there - manageable line before first TSA identification screen but once you go in, there are only two lanes and a much longer line for baggage check security. There is no one from AA in this area checking for eligibility for priority security - and to top it off, the known crew member checkpoint which is supposed to be to the left of this area is apparently closed. We only knew because at least a dozen crew members tried to go that way, turned around, and cut to the front of the line (shouldn’t they have roped off that area at least?). So, this added about 30 minutes in total of waiting to pass security. To our chagrin, the regular security lines way back towards the center of the terminal had very few passengers going through, many lanes open, and minimal wait (we saw this as we were walking by from inside the secured area). This is really all a fixable problem that AA needs to address to ensure a reasonable customer experience, they need to take priority security seriously if it is to mean anything at all. Really unfortunate state of affairs, and it’s concerning that even the ground agents don’t seem to know what to do or what the current protocol even is.
I will note that even in the past, when the checkpoint next to flagship first checkin was priority/TSA- there was no one checking boarding passes multiple times when I went through. It’s as though they just don’t care!
There are several explanations for the CF. Usually there is both pre and standard screening at checkpoint 8, TSA do what they will randomly and don't tell folks from AA. I've had it the opposite, where it's standard only. AA manages the lines though, and they choose not to police who is in the priority line. The rest is due to construction/renovation of the baggage facilities in that portion of the terminal and the rebuilding of the external building facade airside. CP9 has always been small and had long lines, but that's a TSA thing, not AA.
