I think YYZ flyer has a point. Most of my paid stays in recent years have been booked at the senior rate, but I always check the AAA rate and any specials, and will book those if they are better (and they occasionally are). I just checked random dates at a couple of my usual haunts, as well as a splurge hotel in Europe, and found that in all but one case the Senior rate was exactly the same as the “member” flexible rate (in the other, the Senior rate was significantly worse). I’ve found it very rare for the senior rate to be the same as the member flexible rate - it’s usually been at least as low as the member pre-paid rate (while retaining better cancellation rules), and often much better. Count me disappointed - but glad I have AAA too. I hope this is just some temporary glitch - or a trial that fails and gets abandoned.
