AC may consciously be taking to heart feedback from E75K and E50K that they never get to use their upgrades on long flights and thus could take conscious steps to lessen the number of eUpgrades that SE's earn (see above or just adjust the number of eUpgrades required).
This won't particularly change a 50K's chances of clearing at the gate, and I think the far bigger threat to eUps in general is that AC decides to start REALLY prioritizing bid/paid upgrades.
