Not at all. You are missing my point entirely. Apologies if I was not clear in my previous posts.
There is a definite difference between using a passport to identify someone and using a passport for its intended purpose : admitting someone or not into a foreign country.
For admission or not, the expiration of a passport is 100% required.
For identifying me as P. Leblond and confirming my date of birth, the expired passport is absolutely valid.
And as such, for identifying me to board a domestic flight, there is no logical reason to not accept using a real government issued document with a picture and date of birth. It serves its purpose 100%. It does not become fake or provide any false information after expiration for its intended use.
