I don’t think the NZ Platinum Charge Card card link is current - I can’t navigate there from AMEX NZ in any way, and clicking on the ‘sign up’ link simply brings one to the general AMEX NZ page where the card cannot be found.

There is some chatter on reddit about this card being withdrawn:

A few months ago, Amex stopped issuing the Platinum Card and there was no longer a mention of it anywhere on their sites. I haven't seen much notice of it, let alone any speculation.

I've still got mine, but am considering downgrading to Gold (as it's essentially a 'free' card, has the same rewards earn rate and the Platinum is just hard to justify). Amex have said to me that they'll continue to offer renewal of the card to those who have one, indefinitely.

My guess is that not many people wanted it due to the lackluster benefits compared to Aus or the US, and the fact the Gold card is exceptional as is. Esp when the Plat comes with an annual fee of $1,250.

But does anyone know why the disappearance? And is there any plan for it to come back, maybe with a better offering?
When i noticed this earlier this year, they told me the existing cardmembers will get to keep the card, but no new customers. They are not looking at changing the benefits as far as the customer service person was aware.

They have been offering me reward points (700-800$ worth) to stay and i havent paid the full fee yet. I also use up all the benefits on offer including international lounges, hotel and restaurant benefits, car rentals with upgrades, travel credit, domestic/intnl travel insurance, damage protection, etc.

I think the 1250 fee is to scare off the non serious people. If you can afford the fee (but not actually pay it) and manage to spend on the card, its an amazing card to have!
