I bought a flight for my 16 year old to fly home alone from a summer program, which they've done before on Delta. No notifications came up (that I noticed) while buying the ticket, but my wife was reviewing the AA unaccompanied minor information page and noted that it says that a 15-17 year old must have a "gate escort and guardian contact" and can't check in online. What does this even mean? If my 16 year old shows up at the airport on their own, they could be denied boarding because of not having a "gate escort"? I asked AA gate agents at a different airport and they were unaware of this "gate escort" requirement. I don't know what to expect now but am concerned about my kid being stranded at the departure airport.
