My concern is since Aria is neither good nor bad, there is no significant groundswell of dissatisfaction among passengers, therefore there is less incentive for CX to change significantly, which might implicitly mean they made a sub-optimal decision. The continual delay of 777-9 might also have constrained industry rate of innovations temporarily, which gave CX less urgency to deviate from Aria other than making seemingly patchwork improvements.

I suppose the core of source of dissatisfaction of Aria comes from HK-based passengers for now. I wonder how much growth CX is expecting from the mainland passengers in the coming years and for these mainland passengers, is Aria considered much better than the mainland China local competitive offerings, at least in the price-value proposition?
I fully agree with the sentiment: Aria is a mid-cycle, catch-up product.Understandably, the old guard feels the sting when service and product change. But I’d wager CX has its eye on millennials and Gen Y’s, who are or will be peaking in disposable income and have an entirely different set of expectations. The baseline does a soft reset so to speak. It’s just one of those times I think.

And they’re not just targeting HKers but a pan-GBA demographic so I think CX is focused on strengthening its positioning across the region in intermediate term.

I’m hopeful CX does focus on being among the first in whatever comes after high speed WiFi and privacy doors so it can actually commit at scale early next time and perhaps the delay of the innovation cycle works in CX’s favour but no clue tbh.

I’m a relatively new flyer with CX so I’m willing to concede that maybe my expectations are misplaced.
