As I paying P pax, I would immediately complain to the purser.
Platinums are no longer restricted to booking just one seat as long as F award inventory is available.
I also heard that one of the reasons for the new set up was to precisely avoid invites from J or others to dine together in LP. If you want to dine next to your fellow LP companion, then the suggestion from AF is that you book the two center suites.
Having said that, in a recent flight where I was with my mother in F and two other family members in J, the purser asked if they wanted to join us for the meal (keeping the J menu), but we declined as they were happy with their seats and watching a movie. The cabin was 2/4 so maybe that’s why it was offered, as they would not bother other guests.
We all skipped breakfast before arrival and the purser suggested my family members to move to the two vacant seats in LP for landing to facilitate the arrival process. That was highly appreciated, although I would never proactively ask for it (or expect it).
But I agree that inviting other guests when you do not have a private cabin is a big no-no and should be discouraged.
