This has been my experience as well. I don't have strong feelings about the order itself, just that it is enforced and consistent - AA has done a good job with this so far.

I've long said that AA should make the sizer slightly more reasonable and then gate check + charge for anyone that exceeds it. This will speed up boarding, increase consistency and add revenue from the non-compliant.

The current system sucks. Some GAs are sticklers, while others let crazy stuff through. Some GAs selectively enforce the rules on the same flight. It slows things down and creates unhappiness.
