No late checkout on my recent stay (I had asked for 1pm) and no upgrade.
Also, the club lounge puts out self-service wine and beer between 5pm and 7pm... then presents you with a bill for it! I complained and got the charge removed, despite the aggressive protest of some kind of F&B manager who tried to argue with his own front desk, but ... jeez. They even mentioned drinks between 5 and 7 when we checked in, it never crossed my mind that these would be chargeable (otherwise, why advertise it?) Sure, lounges in the USA often charge for alcohol but you have to order through an attendant or there's a price list somewhere. It makes even less sense that the lounge here is right next door to the bar, so you might as well just go there. Also, most hotels that don't offer eg happy hour drinks will offer a coupon for a drink or two at check-in - again, not here.
Avoid any rooms ending 09 ... there's a persistent loud electrical hum.
No Marriott-branded Bonvoy property is required to give restaurant breakfast as a welcome gift unless the lounge is closed. It has nothing to do with it being a convention property - though, their denial of a late checkout does have to do with their claim of convention status.
I am not aware of any hotel in Canada that gives out free alcohol in the lounge. I’ve heard there is a Canadian law in play there but could be wrong. They should advertise their prices, though.
