I really do love the new procedures.
In my experience AA gets a 9.5/10 on the new boarding procedures and have been very consistent with them. I would absolutely love if all flights had your said questionable bags measured and carry on rules enforced, but your scenario is but a unicorn to me that I have not seen on any domestic flight with AA.
