I love how people not from the UK (inferred from the phrase "you Brits") enjoy telling Brits how to run their country - though they've done it reasonably well for nigh on a thousand years, with a few notable exceptions, and based on the current U.S. situation seem to be doing a better job of it now. If you don't like the way Brits choose to run their country, odds are that nobody is forcing you to visit it. If business reasons make that necessary, nobody is forcing you to drive there.

Bottom line: (1) suck it up; (2) get out of denial; (3) admit that you made what was in retrospect a bad decision; (4) pay the penalty, which will not affect your lifestyle in any important way; and (5) move on.
