Other way round, but two years ago I got caught speeding in a rental car (82 in a 65 zone) on my way to BOS to catch my flight home and was issued with a fine, plus the admin fee from Hertz. I didn't pay it and ended up with a court summons being sent to my home address in the UK. It arrived after the court date, so again, just ignored it. Evidently an elevated fine was issued in my absence. Ignored it again. It ended up being handed to a UK-based debt collection agency so I paid it off (£660, all in) and never heard anything else about it. I would reasonably expect the same to occur the other way around for OP. Get it paid before it becomes a large sum of money.
