The BoI guidelines have been updated a bit:

  • Foreigners except certain categories who are travelling to India are required to hold a valid passport and valid visa. Certain foreigners may for one reason or another; travel on travel documents other than a proper national passport, or a Certificate of Identity. Such foreigners are required to hold a valid visa for entry into India.

  • Foreign Nationals (including OCI card holders) should, at all times, be in possession of a VALID PASSPORT and a VALID VISA. This applies for ENTRY into, STAY in and EXIT from India.
