I can't see anything in the advice you cite suggesting that you are required to have a passport valid for 6 months on the day you exit India. Indeed, such a requirement wouldn't make much sense given the very specific, well laid out requirement to have a minimum 6 month life left in the document when you enter.

But if you're worried about how immigration officers might interpret unpublished regulations, it might be better to accept a 5% loss on passport utility and get a get a new one.
