FWIW the US has many traffic laws that look strange to Europeans. Turn on red varies by state. You can't pass a stopped school bus even if no child is crossing. Police speed traps can be hidden from sight (in the UK at least they have to be clearly visible). "Move over laws" that vary by state. "Good Samaritan" laws that vary by state. Aircraft for speed limit enforcement. Requirement to have actual driving licence and other physical paperwork in the car itself if you get pulled over.
I received my first and only ticket in Madison, Wisconsin, last year when I parked at the kerb facing the wrong way. I had no idea that was even a thing. But I accepted that I had broken a local law, paid it with good grace and didn't moan about a police state penalising me for parking safely.
