Beat of Hawaii seriously is just pages and pages of regurgitated griping. I grew up in the Islands. Yes Hawaiian is the hometown carrier. Yes its the friendly Aloha carrier. Like most things in Hawaii it was beset with corruption and horribly managed. Hawaiian was about to go into bankruptcy. This isn't a merger, it's an acquisition. Alaska needs to do what it will to make it profitable. And in truth, Hawaiian really hasn't been premium in a few years. They've presented as such, but their soft product has been on a major downward slide, and their IT systems make Alaska's look amazing and modern. It's a lot of living on nostalgia. Change is hard, but it's the only way the name will live on. The widebodies are leaving the Islands ultimately other than further ambitions to make a mini pacific base. The HA pilots can either move to Seattle and the new base, or give up flying the birds to Alaska's pilots based in Seattle.
