A GS benefit I would love is if on the crappy transcon 777 old school configuration (SFO-EWR), they'd block (still sell but don't let people select them) a couple seats on the sides so that GS wouldn't get stuck in the dreaded 4 across. Would cost United almost nothing but be a real nice benefit. Took a redeye last week in the middle of the 4 across (only seats left) and it just sucked.
I think this would be a benefit across all widebody premium services, and have suggested it for years - same for Polaris international services. I find myself in an angled seat in the middle block, often in the last row or next to the galley, on a full J fare booked at the last minute. Other *A carriers have a holdback policy for top ranks - would be great to have this.
