The progression would appear to be that:

1) On being awarded the status match one gets 4 months of Miles and Smiles Elite, and providing one takes any international flight with TK in that 4 months, the status match will be extended to 12 months.

2) Provided one earns 15,000 status miles flying TK in the first year, Elite status will be extended for a further 12 months

3) and supposedly, earning a further 10,000 status miles still within the initial 12 month period will result in status being extended for a further 2 years

One of the problems is, that the validity date shown on one's card does not update as one completes these stages, but only at the end of the preceding validity period. So, one only knows for sure that one's status will be extended just as it's looking like it will run out.

There are lots of reports about people getting 24 month validity through flying getting 15,000 status miles, but I've not seen anything confirming (or indeed refuting) that earning 25,000 status miles in the first 12 months will result in the status match lasting 4 years.

Does anyone have any info on this one way or the other?
At what stage of this progression does *Gold become active and useable when flying other *Alliance members?

I intend to submit Status Match but will likely be flying SQ before my first TK flight. After the TK flight, I will be flying other *Alliance carriers before I accrue 15k miles on TK flights.
