I've definitely seen tons of people in this group refer to SLC as a "west coast" hub (and then argumentatively defend that position) even though SLC is further from the ocean than, say, DTW.
I think of it as an interior hub because most of my flying through it involves going further east. It’s a great location for both east-west and north-south traffic.
