at first they cited weather.. but I didn't see bad weather pretty much anywhere relevant that day, so believe it was a made up reason to not compensate people like me.
you are unlikely to see the bad weather, especially if that is what delayed the inbound flight causing a knock on delay to your flight. My 2 most recent flights, we were vectored around weather on an inbound into iah which added 20 minutes to the flight time. On the outbound there were atc restrictions north out of houston due to weather so we had a lengthy hold before departure. On neither occassion did i see bad weather.

This would have turned a 3hr 40 min lgw to lhr connection to 3 hours making it tighter
