I think it comes down to how we each define “true luxury.” Since Fairmont Tokyo only just opened, it might be a little early to fully assess service levels, which are such a key part of the luxury experience. But based on the design and pricing alone, it’s positioned quite high in the market. For example, I looked up a random 3-night stay in October (without any third-night-free promotions), and Fairmont is priced just below Aman, Bulgari, and Janu - putting it in the fourth spot overall. That’s ahead of some pretty established names like Ritz-Carlton, Mandarin Oriental, and Four Seasons Otemachi.
The rooms themselves are a good size, starting from 52m² (about 559 sq ft), though of course not quite as spacious as Aman’s 77m²/829 sq ft base rooms. From the photos and design elements, they’ve certainly done a beautiful job with the interiors.
Time will tell how it delivers overall.
