Slightly OT but a much better offer IMHO would be for BA to allow a certain number of tier points to be purchased with Avios - rather like the SAF offer. So given £1 of SAF buys 1 TP up to 1000 then perhaps 100 avios per tier point. 100000 avios would then buy 1000 tier points. If it were unlimited, GGL membership would then cost about 6.5 million avios but I imagine it would be limited like the SAF and AMEX offer. Might be useful for those who are avios rich but just not making the cut for a status level, and BA's finances would benefit by reducing their avios contingent liabilities.
AY have that option, although much better priced than your suggestion. OWS needs 45000 AY TP, so 6x BA's 7500. You can swap 3 avios for 1 AY TP, equivalent of 18 for 1 nTP. It's limited to half the TP needed to renew your current level, 1 transaction per year.

For OWE you only need 4x the TP on AY (80k vs 20k), so it would be the equivalent of 12avios/nTP if you're going for BA Gold.

It's one of the features that has attracted me to AY after BAEC ended.
