I've been asked for proof of onward travel more than once, and from more than one country, even being called at the gate. I would expect this to occur on an increasing basis worldwide for reasons that are suitable for another FT forum.
Didn't I mention in my post that this is basically nothing new and other countries do it routinely? I've been to other countries that do it and even get it wrong. Because some countries like Nepal don't require proof of onward travel even though the Dubai International Airport thinks they do. I almost miss my flight dealing with those idiots. I posted this information for people coming to Mexico that probably never dealt with it before and figure Mexico was safe for a one-way ticket for example like it used to be or not even enforced. Seems like they're getting ready to enforce it.
