Randomly checking two hotels on Aug 27, PHNY, FHR=Standard rate but Beekman was cheaper ($525 vs $565 ) and then there was a further 15% Amex discount (taking it below Hyatt's cheapest rate by $60 or so).
Oops, forgot FHR rate excludes destination fees, Hyatt includes them. So above is invalid, except that if FHR is double counting destination fees in its rate, then it’s a bit careless of them.
Amex Travel doesn't charge you the destination fee. That is charged directly by the hotel. However, it does show the rate, inclusive of taxes and fees, on the initial screen.
What makes it harder to compare is that Hyatt displays rates that include fees but not taxes.
