Except that’s not what happened. In the case of my dash 8 swap I spotted it five minutes after it happened (yes, I’m a nerd who tracks tail numbers) and everyone was already assigned. So it’s not that all seats are invalid, it would appear when there’s a swap they just randomly put people in seats - with some sort of random shuffle.
I think nancypants is right in that your emotional response is possibly blinding you to the fact that you two are essentially saying the same thing, ie once an aircraft change has occurred basically the computer does an auto reallocation and all assignments are essentially spilled. It’s a free for all to deal with what’s left.
Either way, it happens and there are more important things in life.
