Maybe because this challenge isn't capturing imaginations. It is, after all pretty pedestrian - it could be satisfied simply by taking 5 trips using Istanbul as origin or a connection.
6000 mile positioning flights aside, it's less captivating than the SAS promotion - flying one airline throughout will never be as interesting as flying with 15 different ones.
However, in terms of driving future business for the airline, this promotion is much-better structured. I didn't know before this that TK fly to more cities than any other airline, but now I do. I didn't know that they offered free 5* hotels on certain Istanbul layovers, but now I do. I didn't know that any airline status was as valuable as Elite Plus seems to be, but now I do.
I'd never booked a flight with TK before this, but I think it's likely I'll now aim to retain Elite Plus status for years to come.
