Booking Light fare on AF/KLM as Platinum Medallion

I’ve tried researching this but it seems rather intricate so I wanted to check with y’all. For context, I’m Platinum Medallion and I travel to Europe with my spouse pretty regularly (from LAX).

Since we’re PM, we have generally tried to book our cash flights on DL due to getting Comfort+ upgrades immediately.

I’m curious though…I’ve seen AF/KL Light promo fares on DL metal be lower than what I’d find on Delta.com. If I were to book that, how does it get treated by Delta? (Assuming we’re associating our SkyMiles accounts, not Flying Blue.) Note that these tend to be entirely DL operated (connecting through ATL, BOS, or JFK).

Would Delta recognize my status and give us the C+ upgrade immediately (in the Delta app/website)? The free + extra checked bags (overweight if necessary)? MQD and SkyMiles earning?

Basically, is Delta aware of the “basic” nature of the original booking or does it treat it as a MC fare? Does it in any way impact lounge access (SkyClub or SkyTeam)?

If so, I’m assuming the only major downside would be the lack of ability to change for free or get refunded as eCredits. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance!
