Recently I was 4th boarding a QF Dash 8, heading for seat 7A to find a crew member strapping in an elderly lady (who had boarded first with assistance) into 7C. Crew member advised, "Oh no, you can't be sitting there, I'll have to reseat you," then told the lady she could move over to 7A as it was now vacant. I was reseated to 20A (with 20C vacant) and offered 2 packets of rice crackers for my trouble. I wasn't too fussed, I had the row to myself. I don't think it was a matter of aircraft change, it had always been flagged as a D8 service. Don't think it was a case of status rank pulling either (which would've been unacceptable as it's just wrong for so many reasons), it was a case of assisting a passenger who had assistance needs, perhaps not identified until she arrived.

I also agree with nancypants, safety checks are becoming less stringent and with the disappearance of safety videos on so many Qantas aircraft, just a quick "Look at me while I show you how to buckle a seat belt and put on a life vest." It feels safety is less of a concern than saving $ on seatback or overhead screens. Feels incomplete. Feels LCC.
