I had cut up the other card, but since it's still active, I just ordered a replacement card. First time I've had that happen, where they said they were closing the account but didn't actually do so.
Chase did the same earlier this year when I called to close my Explorer card. I don’t know if the agent I spoke to just “forgot” because he couldn’t convince me to keep the account or why this happened, but I will now more closely track the status of any accounts to be closed.

I tend to agree - my only thought would be maybe Citi would offer a new card - call it Platinum Plus, Plat Pro Select, or some similar and offer some extra benefits to the Plat card for a $200 AF version versus the $100 AF for Plat. Then they would have a match to status - Gold, Plat, Plat Pro, Exec Plat. I still have the old Gold card, $50 AF. MileUp is new.
I think AA and Citi will use this opportunity to “reimagine” the whole product suite with new coupons and higher annual fees (see UA/Chase).
