I've been watching the J fares like a hawk for the dates of my next Tokyo trip and last night, DL dropped their fares by around $1K. This morning, UA followed suit and I was just able to book 2 Polaris tix from the East Coast to HND for ~500K UR points. I did notice that my preferred routing thru IAD did not have a points boost option (even though it was the same cash price), so I took the best deal and flew thru ORD for the big discount.
Points boost is also available on AC flights to Japan for even less points, but you have to fly thru Canada.
If availability holds up, points boost is going to be a sweet enhancement.
Im not sure how good that deal is - I typically pay 70k-88k OW from west coast. Obviously better than the 200k OW that is typical for .bomb.
on the plus side you will earn back some miles on the paid fare and presumably EQM and MM status. On the minus side maybe non refundable?
personally I’d take ORD any day over IAD
