I had a similar situation with my previous employer, but I am from the UK, so it is slightly different.

I had the same thoughts as you and planned to play dumb if asked for any work details.

I was going to say I simply have a work laptop/phone, and all my credentials are on those. I don't carry them while on vacation.

They did not ask for anything or say anything, but the risk was worth the savings.
