I get that, in isolation, it would make more sense to stay at the Ritz than to fly - but the Ritz aren't about to give me £5k+ worth of points for spending £5k to stay there. Once you throw in Elite Plus status, TK are effectively paying me to take the flights, and it's more enjoyable than sitting at home while I do my admin. What's not to like?
For the SAS challenge, I again combined it with a necessary UK-East Asia trip, and made more of a holiday of it - my wife accompanied me for some of the more interesting places to start (Bali, Ho Chi Minh, Bangkok) then flew home while I completed the rest.
I don't have netflix or any streaming services because I don't have time to watch enough to make it worth it.
Yeah you will get E+ for 2 years but then you will need to maintain it after that. I'm happy making my TK E for the past 12 years and I have re-requalified as E within 4 months (the timing makes it even more stupid to run for my sake). TK maybe pays for your flight - if you notice they did an insane devaluation of their miles in 2024 without notice. As I said, if you have to do the trips anyway, it's a great promo. But I wouldn't try to do it - I almost did the SK ones but SK screwed me hard once and I have not that much faith in that company and with my dealing with TK in the past 12 years I also don't have much trust in them.
You'll definitely get your miles thrown with TK credited - the only challenge is whether TK is going to honour the 1M miles or if they are not devaluating their miles after that. Something that I don't really want to deal with if I can avoid it. I already have plenty of admin work by living in Denmark, and I don't want to have to deal with TK when things go south - it feels like talking to a brick wall.
I did plan out my SK challenge flight - it was fun but in the end I didn't go through it (it's my thing and it was possible to take 5th freedom flight to avoid going too far - I have a family so it's not so nice to run off just like that). But I ended up not doing it because there were quite some people having issues with retro-claim. SK miles worth more than TK due to low YQ - some would say it has access to AF Le Premiere.
After the SK campaign I saw more and more people complaining about SK metal award space in C (SK Y is like a LCC).
So those money I planned on spending on the SK challenge ended up in our savings towards a comfortable retirement life in order to afford our travel pattern, maybe we will consider doing it when we retire to make an ultra long holiday.
