Correct. Funnily, this just happened to me for the first time - or perhaps I noticed for the first time because of this thread?
They asked me to add my phone number to the registration sheet on which my other personal details were already correctly pre-filled. So I wrote down my number, proceeded with the check-in and went about my day.
FWIW, the fact that there isn’t 100% consistency in the data which is transmitted between Bonvoy account and hotel doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. It’s just what happens when, presumably, different systems are used by different properties.
