Angry Chase Sapphire Preferred $50 Travel credit cautionary tale

Per my understanding, the cardholder has to book a hotel through Chase Travel and will receive up to $50 in statement credits, which should arrive within 2 billing periods when using the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. We just found out (after about 2 hours on the phone with 5 Chase reps, and multiple secure messages over several weeks) an additional unwritten requirement is that the booking has to be made using the Chase Sapphire 'portal'. None of the Chase reps were able to explain to me what this means, and how I should have done the booking differently to meet this requirement except to cite this as the reason for not awarding the $50 statement credit.

More info:

- My SO is the primary cardholder, and I'm the authorized user who made the booking, using my authorized user sapphire preferred card.

- My sapphire preferred card is linked to my Chase Business login profile, which I use to access my business and personal chase cards.

- I used the Chase mobile app to make the hotel booking, and paid with the Sapphire Preferred card.

- The purchase earned 2x points, not the 5x points for a Chase Travel purchase, and the $50 'automatic' credit was not received after the requisite 2 billing periods.

It appears that if we had used my wife's Chase login and done the booking from there, this probably would not have broken any 'unwritten' Chase rules to receive the automatic credit. This issue has been escalated to the Chase Travel team, and cardholder services team multiple times now, with no resolution. At this point we're not expecting that we will ever receive this credit, as per Chase the Sapphire 'portal' was not used for this booking, even though none of the Chase reps were able to explain how I could have done this booking differently to receive the credit. I guess this is buyer beware.
