At least AA is reversing instead of digging their heels further.

This policy encouraged me to book other airlines that offered a nonstop vs AA with a connection. Flying AA in those cases was already borderline irrational, add the risk of difficulty navigating standby at the connecting airport and it really didn't make sense.
