Years ago I read about someone who at check-in was asked from whose account the miles came from. It was an illegitimate use of illegitimate miles (purchased by a consolidator ?) and after a long “discussion” the traveler was NOT allowed to travel. Also read about someone at check-in who was asked to show the credit card used to buy the ticket and was also NOT allowed to fly when they couldn’t show the otherwise sock-drawered card. Are those sorts of things still a concern?
Booking one-way's allows more flexibility to change flights should plans change or pricing drop. I always book one-way's assuming the pricing is the same (this is the same regardless of whether you're booking for yourself or someone else).

When you book it there's no reason not to include her AA# at booking, otherwise she can easily add it later. Once her AA# is on the reservation it should auto-populate other details attached to her account like KTN.

And with AA there is virtually no risk of any questions at check-in or raised eyebrows or asking to provide the credit card or anything like that. Nothing to worry about.
