About to book RT AA miles award AA flights for my late 20's niece, hopefully the first of several each year for her and her mid 20's brother/my nephew, possibly including international flights in the future. Have only booked award tickets for others a few times 10-12 years ago. I’ve booked many AA award flights for myself during the past few years. Familiar that 2 OWs are usually priced (in miles) identical to 1 RT so that 2 OWs is often more prudent in allowing greater ease and flexibility if 1 flight needs to be changed.

From these forums I’ve learned that if she cancels, miles and fees will be refunded to my AA account and CC.

They are both smart, a little savvy about miles and points, I’m teaching them as much as they’ll tolerate. Hopefully they’ll be able to receive my AA many miles as easily as I received my Mom’s after she passed 6-8 years ago. Just required my signing an affidavit and returning to AA, miles were in my account 2-3 days later.

Should I book her 2 OWs or 1 RT? Presumably at a minimum I need to input her accurate ID name and DOB. Should I add her AA account number and KTN or let her add AA # and KTN?

If I input her AA #, will the ticket(s) show up in her “My Trips” section immediately? If I leave out her AA # will the ticket(s) be displayed in my “My Trips” section?

Years ago I read about someone who at check-in was asked from whose account the miles came from. It was an illegitimate use of illegitimate miles (purchased by a consolidator ?) and after a long “discussion” the traveler was NOT allowed to travel. Also read about someone at check-in who was asked to show the credit card used to buy the ticket and was also NOT allowed to fly when they couldn’t show the otherwise sock-drawered card. Are those sorts of things still a concern?

Thank you.
