I know this will be an unpopular view, but I think PASSENGERS should also be more prepared for schedule disruptions due to weather (and other reasons), or at least adjust their expectations. It is always an inherent risk in the aviation industry.

In any major HUB. ATL. JFK. MSP. LGA. ETC. there should always be ample staff around at the airport in case something goes wrong.
This is simply an unrealistic expectation for any business. It is like saying a retail chain should always be prepared to up its staffing and inventory to holiday shopping levels instantly once or twice for a day at other times throughout the year with only a couple of hours notice so that they don't run out of anything or have lines at the register that are longer than normal.
