I have noticed that the pilots are the ones who are directing if and when the FA will start service. I noticed this on DL too. The captain makes his greeting announcement and adds that the FA are there primarily for your safety, then the captian will say something like, I'm asking the FA to remain seated until I direct them to start service, as there are reports of turbulence, of course zero turbulence yet the FA's are seated for 45 minutes.
Noted - they are there for our safety. Excellent.
So when there is the danger of sudden turbulence the FA's concentration should be on the flight, hence personal phones be secured. They can
'crush some other time.
