The view is better in the main tower than the ocean wing. Maybe a lot better up high (not that there is a bad view of the ocean either wing). The inside atrium in the main tower adds something if you are into mid-century architecture.
The downside is the sun really beats down more on the main tower, so you get less use out of the lanai.
$200 more a night, every night, becomes a Your Preferences May Vary question. Last time I got the upgrade and loved it. But on another stay I might rather pay less and stay longer.
I believe OP's question relates to different room categories in the main tower, as the beachfront wing is currently under construction.
Once it reopens, we will continue to opt for beachfront as we love the proximity to the beach, the view across the lawn to the ocean, and - most of all - the sound of the surf in the rooms.
For OP, I would say that what you really want is the Oceanfront Deluxe. The property's been booked pretty lightly through most of the renovations, so if you're going in the near future one possible strategy would be to book the Ocean View and hoping for the upgrade.
