If you look at other top tier status in the US, United's Premier 1K and Delta's Diamond Medallion requires $28,000 qualifying spending, which is about $38k Canadian.
I don't think AC lack the audacity to demand a similar requirement, if not more given they are the "Skytrax World's BEST Airline*" after all.
Given their recent push for lifestyle spending on their co-branded credit cards, it wouldn't surprise me to see something like "Earn $1000 Status Qualifying Credit for every $10,000 you spend on your credit card"
