Is this only for upgrades that go to the gate? I like my chances, especially if I can choose fisticuffs at dawn, but if I have to fight someone 7 days out from an intercontinental flight, that could present logistical challenges...

Me too. I wish I knew more. I'm mindful of the fact that when they first brought out AQD, they basically gave the shaft to partner flying. I'm hoping they won't make that mistake again.
Too many unknowns at this point to speculate properly, especially with how credit cards play into it as well.
