If I were in charge of revenue protection at UA, the very first thing I would do is assign somebody to check FT, Reddit, etc. on a daily basis to find the flights where someone asks about HCT, match them against purchases, and then either re-route them via another hub, send someone to escort them to their gate, or prepare a bill / account closure / etc. for the difference.
For the UA employees here, I’m sure OP was speaking about HCT purely in a theoretical/hypothetical sense, of course.
