Thanks for posting your thoughts. It is always interesting to experience other airlines and their particular quirks.
I just stepped off a Swiss Air flight in J, and the service was MUCH more polished and the catering was very good, compared to UA. Though they did not have any hot entree options for pre-arrival, which I found odd. But I typically do not partake of pre-arrival meals on TATL, preferring to sleep. And a refreshing approach to seat belt sign use as well.
But i really missed having air nozzles / gaspers. I am finding that is one of the things that make my flights most comfortable. Vast majority of UA widebodies have them, though I have been unlucky a couple of times.
I am taking a break from UA for a bit on travel to Asia. In addition to Swiss, I have Thai, Singapore, and Qatar scheduled this year. They were all significantly better pricing than I could get for United flights. I have flown them all before, but still excited to mix things up a bit this year.
I am taking United to BKK at the end of the year. The pricing was comparable and I suppose I felt nostalgic, as that was my frequent destination with United before they left Thailand. Also chose the HD 777 for the LAX->EWR flight so I could fly backwards on the IPTE seat again.
