Same here, I booked June 16th for a flexible booking and my credit card was charged on the same day. I spotted that looking at my statement today, no indication in the booking process that it would be charged at time of booking. I also noticed that the merchant is listed as sonder.com and it did not count as Marriott spend on my credit card, so for now I am not getting the bonus for using my Marriott credit card for a Marriott stay.

The online check in and ID verification process was surprisingly finnicky. So overall, even before staying I am not convinced that I'll be a repeat customer.
