Funnily enough, a few months ago I was booking flights back to the US out of Scandinavia. I was looking at ARN-PHL, and the cheapest routing it offered was ARN-HEL-CPH-PHL.
But yes, Copenhagen on its own, without connections on OW throughout the Nordic region/Baltics, is definitely not going to get a ton of traffic. Makes much more sense for AA to enlist the help of BA and fly RIX/ARN/TLL/VNO - LHR - US.
