What is the best practice for managing credit lines to maximize future auto approvals? I've seen reports of phantom credit lines from closed cards causing people to be auto denied. Wonder about the following strategy: Move CL from Card A to Card B. Close Card A. Then lower CL on Card B to whatever is desired. Theoretically that seems like it would prevent or minimize phantom credit limits as even if the closed card was still being reported somehow, at least it would have a small amount of credit and surely the open card would be reporting it's credit limit correctly. Thoughts?
