They're connected by a single train. But tbh if I were running the same airline group and selling flights on both my mainland and LCC I'd want to eliminate the need to do this too and have some other airline exiled to midfield.
Also, there are very few places in the world that has no security clearance for international-international connections. They basically only exist for domestic (or Schengen) to international connections.
Many transfers I've done in Europe that were the other way around: international to Schengen, so theoretically more risky, but the passenger experience was prioritized. Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Lisbon.
