There is an interesting post in the Facebook Group AwardTravel101 (sorry can't link - you have to join group for access) where someone was able to book a Hyatt room through the Chase portal at a lower price (using Chase UR) than by transferring Chase UR->Hyatt and booking through Hyatt. The discount was 1k points so nothing to write home about. And this will only work when the cash price is normal, i.e. not for special events or high end properties that provide outsize point value.
Personally I do not see why anyone would waste Chase UR points booking through the Chase portal unless you have more points than you can use. I have only a finite supply of Chase UR and prefer to transfer to UA and Hyatt where I can often get .03-.04 value. YMMV
You could get 3-4 cpp, but most Hyatt redemptions are in the range around 2.
I think there are many people who would prefer to redeem 15k for $300 and there are many places without a Hyatt, so using 15k points for any hotel in the location you want to stay at can be appealing.
